If a child is born after one parent becomes a U.S. citizen, the child may have a claim to U.S. citizenship. Please contact our American Citizens Services Unit to complete a Consular Report of Birth Abroad application. If the child does not have a claim to citizenship and he/she would like to live permanently in the U.S., the child will need an immigrant visa.
